Fight Hunger
We want to start a soup kitchen to help those with food security needs on a daily basis, we need your help. Feed the Hunger is bringing such awareness to schools and offices, to encourage students and office workers alike to take part in our latest Fight Hunger Project. We want to translate our talking into actually doing something about it. Tell your school or colleagues about it, sign up together. With seed money received, we will make a soup kitchen where those with food needs can come for a hot meal, a place to rest, to talk and to share.
In Hong Kong there are 419,000 Working Poor, earning less than HK$5,000 a month. Who are the Extra Poor? Those earning less than HK$3,000 a month, struggling to afford even the basic necessities. As more people are affected by the latest financial tsunami, this figure continues to soar.
3 Groups of people we would like to take care:
The HomelessThe most common three types of homeless peoples are : (1) the mental challenged (2) drug addicts, gambling addicts, alcoholics, and (3) the short term unemployed. As expected, the third group is the one more easily able to stand back up on their own.
The UnemployedWe see a sudden increase of homeless or street sleepers because as the latest financial tsunami swept across Asia, a lot of factories along Southern China were forced to close. Thus we are seeing a sudden surge of the unemployed return to HK, finding themselves homeless and jobless. A majority of these people are willing to seek help from the many government and quasi government agencies.
Short term financial assistance up to 30 days is available. However, due to age, skill, salary expectation, and other considerations. There are less opportunities for this group of people to find suitable employment. For this group to rebound back is not impossible but not easy.
"Bedspace" LodgerThis terminology means for a small fee, a lodger can take up floor space, bed, bunk or sleeping facility used or intended to be used as sleeping accommodation for an individual.
"Bedspace apartment" means any flat; or where the partitioning wall or walls between two or more adjoining flats which has or have been demolished, in which there are 12 or more bedspaces occupied or intended to be occupied under rental agreements.
A major share of bedspace lodgers are the elderly with no skills or ability to find employment.
